I wonder if one of the reasons some former easterners in the U.S. like living on the west coast is because it’s three hours earlier on the clock, so that, when you’re facing one of those still, lonely nights when you just don’t want to turn off the t.v. and face the long dark of sleep, at least you know that the rest of the nation, especially those you knew, have gone on ahead of you.

March 29, 2008Sicko
March 11, 2008Sicko is a very good documentary with a compelling message. America can do better. Yes, Moore sometimes employs melodrama and shows only one side of the “debate”, but if there’s an equally powerful, rational message on the other side, why isn’t someone making a movie about it (or making the case in any other compelling manner?) The free market often works well with a goods or services that people want and which business is rewarded for providing. But it doesn’t seem to be the best solution to health care, a service that (i) normal consumers don’t “want” unless circumstances force them to need it and (ii) insurance companies are rewarded for denying rather than providing.
